Doors sprayed off site in a controlled setting, boxes finished in place, and a kitchen you can still use most of the week. Meticulous prep on every surface, and a final walkthrough with Austin before we call it done.

Cabinet Painting in the Greater Charlotte Area

Cabinet painting is the highest impact thing you can do to a kitchen without touching the layout. Plenty of houses around the Greater Charlotte Area were built with honey oak or dark cherry cabinetry that is structurally perfect and simply reads as dated. Replacing it means demolition, a lead time on the new boxes, and a number that surprises people. Refinishing the doors and boxes you already have changes the whole room for a fraction of that, and because the boxes stay put, your counters and backsplash stay where they are too. Brushworks Painting does kitchens, bathroom vanities, islands, built in cabinetry, and laundry cabinets.

Cabinets are the least forgiving surface in a house, so the process is not the same as wall painting. Doors and drawer fronts come off, get labeled, and are sprayed in a controlled setting where dust is not landing in the finish. Everything gets degreased first, because years of cooking oil is something no primer will bond through, then scuff sanded and primed with a bonding product. Finish coats are a cabinet grade enamel that cures hard enough to take fingernails and regular cleaning. Boxes and face frames are masked and finished in place. Covered by our 100% workmanship warranty.

Reasons to Look at Cabinet Painting

You keep the boxes, the layout, the counters, and the backsplash, and change the part people actually look at. For most kitchens the difference in cost is not close.

Doors sprayed off site come back without brush marks or roller texture. That is the difference between a kitchen that looks refinished and one that looks repainted.

No demolition, no waiting on a cabinet order, no plumbing or countertop work. The kitchen stays usable through most of the project.

Kitchens sell houses, and cabinet color is the first thing anyone registers walking in. Dated cabinetry makes an otherwise updated house feel older than it is.

Our Standard

How We Ensure a Perfect Job, Done Right

We guide every cabinet painting project through a structured, multi step quality checklist.

1

Label and Remove

Every door and drawer front is numbered to its opening before it comes off, so nothing gets reinstalled a quarter inch out of place.

2

Degrease Everything

Cabinets near a range carry years of cooking oil. Every surface gets cleaned with a degreaser first, because this is the step that decides whether the finish stays on or peels at the handles.

3

Sand, Fill, and Prime

Scuff sanded for adhesion, grain filled if you want the smooth look on oak, then a bonding primer that will hold on a slick factory finish.

4

Spray the Finish

Two coats of cabinet grade enamel on the doors in a controlled space, and masked spray application on the boxes and face frames in the kitchen.

5

Reinstall and Adjust

Doors and drawers go back on their numbered openings, hardware is fitted, and hinges are adjusted until everything sits flush and closes properly.

Cabinet Painting FAQs

A typical kitchen is about five to seven working days from start to reinstall. Most of that is spraying and curing time on the doors, which happens off site, so your kitchen is genuinely disrupted for only part of it.

Mostly, yes. The doors are off for most of the project, so shelves and drawers are open but reachable. The sink and appliances stay usable except for the day the boxes are being sprayed, when the room needs to stay closed off.

Not when the prep is done properly, which is why we spend a full stage on degreasing and sanding. We use cabinet grade enamels rather than wall paint, and they cure to a hard film built for doors that get opened thousands of times a year.

Yes, if you want it covered. Oak has deep open pores that show through paint as a striped texture. Filling the grain is an extra step and an extra cost, and it is the difference between a smooth finish and a visibly wood textured one. Some people like the grain showing, so we ask rather than assume.

Standard scope is the outside: door faces and edges, drawer fronts, face frames, and any visible exterior of the boxes. Interiors and shelving can be added, and it is worth doing on glass front or open cabinets where you actually see inside.

Satin is the usual answer for kitchens. It wipes clean easily and does not throw glare across the room the way a semi gloss does under can lights. Matte photographs beautifully and is harder to keep clean around a range.

Doors go back on last and the kitchen is usable right away. The coating keeps hardening for a couple of weeks after that, so we ask you to close doors gently and hold off on shelf liners or contact paper until it has finished curing.

Yes. We can match a trim color, a paint chip, or something you have saved on your phone, and a free color consultation is included if you want a second opinion. Warm whites, soft greiges, and a deeper navy or green island are what people in the Greater Charlotte Area ask for most often right now.
