Why We Started a Painting Company

Austin grew up watching his dad run his own company, and that planted the idea that he would build something of his own one day. He came into painting through the sales side, learned the trade end to end, and kept noticing the same thing: the whole industry felt rigid and joyless. He and his wife Dakotah moved to Charlotte, fell for the city, and decided this was where they wanted to put down roots and build something that lasts. Their faith is the foundation of how they run it, and in practice that means honesty about what your home actually needs, care taken with it, and a real interest in the people who live there.

Contracting has a reputation, and most of it is earned. People expect to be ghosted, to get a number that changes later, to spend a week wondering whether anyone is coming back. Austin spent long enough inside the industry to know exactly where it loses people, and almost all of it comes down to communication rather than skill with a brush.

So Brushworks Painting is run the other way around. Austin handles the estimates and manages the projects himself, which means the person who quotes your job is the person you deal with for the rest of it. Dakotah keeps the schedule moving and makes sure nothing goes unanswered. We specify coatings from Sherwin-Williams, we walk the work with you along the way rather than only at the end, and we would genuinely rather tell you we are not the right fit than talk you into something.
